Two FW podcasts have been awarded while FW Communications Director Sally Spicer has been named Journalist of the Year at the Mumbrella Publish Awards, which celebrate the best work in the Australian publishing industry.
Award-winning podcast, There’s No Place Like Home, won Best Podcast (Series) at the Mumbrella Publish Awards.
Spicer, who serves as executive producer on both podcasts, was named Journalist of the Year. Judges noted that her “ability to bring lesser told stories to light with sensitivity” made her the standout winner.
“Creating compelling content with sensitivity and care is one of FW’s core principles and it was deeply gratifying to see that recognised by the industry last night,” said FW Managing Director and Founder, Helen McCabe.
“I am incredibly grateful to Julie Bishop – the only woman in Tony Abbott’s 2013 cabinet and a trailblazer for women in politics – for sharing her story with us. I’d also like to thank our podcast partners, CommBank and Victoria Police, because without their support it simply wouldn’t be possible to produce this kind of high-quality journalism.”
Too Much was awarded Best Podcast (Single Episode) for ‘Julie Bishop was “too diplomatic’ while Sally Spicer won Journalist of the Year.
Spicer, a radio journalist before joining FW, paid tribute to the victim-survivors of domestic and family violence who inform so much of her work.
“Any time someone trusts me enough to share their lived experience and expertise is an honour. I feel like this award is recognition of the fact that collaborating with victim-survivors, involving them in the process and ensuring they are comfortable with how you’re conveying their experience is not only the right thing to do, it also leads to a better result.”
Multi-award-winning podcast, Too Much, won Best Podcast (Single Episode) with ‘Julie Bishop was “too diplomatic”’.
There’s No Place Like Home is made possible with the support of Commonwealth Bank, which is working to end financial abuse through CommBank Next Chapter. Too Much is proudly supported by Victoria Police, who are looking for more women to join their ranks.
The next seasons of There’s No Place Like Home and Too Much are due for release in early 2025.
