The Miles Franklin Literary Prize is one of Australia’s most prestigious literary prizes. It has been around since 1957 and over the years the award became something of a boy’s club, despite being named after a woman, Stella Maria Sarah ‘Miles’ Franklin.

Yes, you read that correctly. Two of Australia’s premier literature prizes, the Miles Franklin Literary Prize and the Stella Prize, are both named after the same woman.
