In The Poetics of Space, Gaston Bachelard wrote, “The places in which we have experienced daydreaming reconstitute themselves in a new daydream, and it is because our memories of former dwelling-places are relived as daydreams that these dwelling places of the past remain with us for all time.” Shelter is not only ingrained in our lives and minds it’s a primal need. Everyone has an idea or an opinion about “home”, what we love, what’s missing from our own and our aspirations for what it could be. It’s why so many of us are glued to the renovation journey in reality TV shows and get a strange, voyeuristic pleasure to be swept up into the highs and lows of a property transformation.
Home is where the heart is but it’s also the space where we live out our lives. If you’re renting you’re likely to be planning, pondering or dreaming about owning a property someday or maybe just wishing you could stay in the one place longer. If you’re an owner, well, you know you need to keep adding value to your property to maintain its value. If you’re an investor, you probably want things to tick over without too much fuss.
You’ve hit the glass ceiling. And our paywall.
