Future Women is partnering with Commonwealth Bank to launch its most substantial piece of journalism to date. There’s No Place Like Home is a compelling new podcast that puts survivors of family violence at the centre of the story.

There’s No Place Like Home is hosted by anti-violence campaigner Tarang Chawla and follows the stories of ten people whose lives have been impacted by domestic abuse. The series is based on more than 100 hours of interviews with survivors, advocates and experts.

Future Women Founder and Managing Director, Helen McCabe says “These ten stories are not only compelling and beautifully told, but they make the case for meaningful change. We have to expand our understanding of what family violence is and the myriad of ways it manifests”.

According to the latest data, one Australian woman will be killed by a former or current partner each week. One in every four women, and one in thirteen men, have experienced partner violence. Based on analysis in 2015, violence against women in Australia costs our country more than $22 billion every year.

Helen McCabe says “Our aim was to not only deliver compelling episodes but to accurately and respectfully tell the stories of the survivors who generously gave their time. It’s a privilege for Future Women to partner with CommBank and give this critical issue the attention it deserves.”

There’s No Place Like Home is a Future Women collaboration with Commonwealth Bank, which is supporting long-term financial independence for victim-survivors of financial abuse through CommBank Next Chapter.

CommBank will also sponsor the Future Women Leadership Summit, in March 2022, which is expected to attract more than 1000 attendees across its in-person and digital offering.

CommBank Group Executive, Human Resources, Sian Lewis says, “At CommBank we have a strong focus on building a brighter future for all Australians, and that includes victim-survivors of financial abuse – something we’ve been focused on since 2015. To strengthen our commitment to supporting those impacted by financial abuse we launched CommBank Next Chapter two years ago, and over that time we’ve learnt that despite its prevalence, awareness and understanding of financial abuse is limited. But we want to change that, and improving awareness and understanding of this issue is critical to creating change.

“This is why we’re incredibly proud to be partnering with Future Women to deliver this amazing new podcast and share the first-hand stories of some very brave victim-survivors and to shine a light on this insidious form of domestic and family violence.”

Weekly podcast episodes will be released from Tuesday 22 February 2022.

There’s No Place Like Home is Future Women’s eighth podcast, following other successful releases including Future Women with Jamila Rizvi, Next Generation Innovators, and Drive, whose first and second series were hosted by Nine’s Georgie Gardner and Leila McKinnon.
