American author Lionel Shriver has returned to Australia expressing a disinterest in feminist causes and criticising the #MeToo movement for pettiness.

Three years after she was at the centre of a controversy involving Sudanese-Australian writer Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Shriver was again fearless in her language and views.

Shriver who is often called an iconoclast describes herself as a Liberal Democrat. So far she is a supporter of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and scathing of the United States President Donald Trump, urging the Democratic Party to elect a candidate to defeat the Republican President in 2020.

“Trump is an idiot and I really mean it, his IQ is medically low and then add to that wilful ignorance,” Shriver said. “Boris Johnson is extremely bright. He is very well educated. He’d never make any of the kind of foot mouth crap Trump has.
