Author and journalist Jamila Rizvi has joked about breaking out of hospital after being readmitted following a second round of surgery for a brain tumour a fortnight ago.

The editor-at-large of start-up, Future Women, has posted a selfie to express her frustration at being back in hospital shortly after a craniotomy.

Fact: There is nothing more boring than being in hospital. I’m like a caged animal, considering making a break for freedom just as soon as I can figure out how to remove a cannula and dodge some hyper vigilant nurses. Do you know what else is boring (and how is this for a bumpy segue)? Superannuation. Nobody likes talking or reading about it and yet the lack of it means Aussie women are falling into poverty later in life. However, she returned to hospital this week for further rest after suffering low blood pressure.

She has continued to post images throughout the ordeal including one of her “usually floppy haired” husband Jeremy who shaved his head in solidarity.
